Voyage Lighthouse

LEDA AND LITTLE LEDA:

And here on that night in September
The air was chill
The moon was faint as an ember
The sea was still

And we saved him!
But the sea claimed the rest --
Only one survived the tragedy.

Or did he?

"The doctor took one look at him

"The doctor took one look at him,
Said that he was dead.
"

"Well, my dear, the three of you
May have been misled.
Leda says he's being well fed.
"

"Do they breakfast in her bed?"

Something mighty queer is happening
Out on Lighthouse Island.

THE STRANGER:

Now the sea that separates us
Binds us together as well.
Binds us with the power of heaven
And the passion of hell.
Out there in the ocean

In the glow of this dying September
There are two rings.

KEEPER: BALTHAZAR: HENRY:
I had a wife, a tiny creature
She'd drink and cuss
And plus
She was muscular as me.

I had a wife -- but someone else's.
Since he was old, she boldly
Consoled herself with me.

I need a wife
There's one I long for:
She is as fair, I swear,
As a prairie flower in spring.

Henry marries Leda.  A child is born.

"Some say he has silver eyes
And a cloven chin.
"

"My own mother swears that he
Is the devil's kin!
"

JILL (Leda's stepdaughter):

She's loony -- I mean it.
Unbalanced -- you've seen it.
She's crazy as a patchwork of quilts.

The child dies soon after.  Leda cannot accept this.

You're my little boy
Sleepy little one
Wake and see the sun.
Wake up please, my son.

HENRY: KEEPER:
Is there a reason?
A way to comprehend
The empty cradle
The promise at an end.
There is a reason
A hand that guides it all
And grants a purpose
To every sparrow's fall.

LEDA:
I guess I really want
What everybody does:
I want to be the way I was.
